THIS RESTAURANT IS NOT CLOSED! Brownstone is in full swing and I enjoyed it all. My girlfriend and I were looking for an impromptu happy hour close to home. We were torn between Harold and Belle's and Brownstone. I'm so glad we chose Brownstone! This is a beautiful, Black owned restaurant with a full bar(w/ 2 huge TVs) that serves food with a Caribbean flair and a live band! We had the grilled Caribbean wings, lobster mac&cheese, and the spinach dip. Plus rum punch to drink. We ate at bar and the the service was fantastic. The handsome bartender- Fredericko (I believe that was his name) was so welcoming, explained the specials and even walked us over to the full buffet so we could take a look at the offerings. The 2nd bartender- cute, Hispanic guy was super friendly too. The food exceeded my expectations- wings = bomb! Spinach dip = good! Lobster Mac = good, but needed more cheese. The owner was around, the owners wife was checking on folks. The music was nice, the patrons are chill. Your mom and dad would like this place too. The bathroom was so clean and nice- the super huge full length mirror was a plus! I'll be back....soon!
My husband and I were totally impressed with Brownstone L.A. on Pico. We have been there twice since the opening of the remodeled version, and had a Fabulous time, each time. The first time was just for appetizers and drinks. The food was delicious, thanks to Chef Clive and the bartenders made awesome drinks. The second time was for Mardi Gras, and they had a beautiful celebration. Great seafood, great buffet, lively decorations, and a live band. No cover charge just paid for the all you can eat buffet or seafood boil. There was a Second Line with ladies with colorful umbrellas and outfits. We have no complaints, only that we will return again and we will tell all of our friends to come by BROWNSTONE LA on Pico.
I love checking out restaurants and bars in my neighborhood so when a quick online glance of Brownstone's menu showed nothing of the vegan variety I decided to pop by anyway. A little wine, a little chilling out after work. Man, did I luck out. The staff were welcoming, giving me details on the buffet which is apparently every Thursday. I politely declined and told them I'm sure it's great but I'm vegan and totally fine with just wine. The server told me to hang on and off she goes to the buffet. Two minutes later she returned with an epic plate of vegan Jamaican goodness, just for me. I love Jamaican food and had I know Brownstone was flexible I'd have been here months ago. The greens, the rice and beans, the plantains. Totally hit the spot. The food was a nice surprise and so was the whole visit really. The staff were chatty and I spent about ten minutes talking to Clive, the owner. He was genuinely friendly and loved talking about his passion for food and the journey that brought about Brownstone. He told me about his family, we chatted about how it's a shame we can't get fresh ackee, just casual and open conversation. He assured me anytime I came by they would make me a veggie plate and I took him up on that a few weeks later when I came through with my fiancé. I loved the food, she loved the food, we again chatted with the crew and had a great time. It just goes to show that I can't always judge a restaurant by its menu. Now whenever I have a hankerin' for some Jamaican style rice and beans I know to mosey up the street to Brownstone. Nice work, Clive!
My friend and I came to Brownstone for their Thursday buffet and we were not disappointed. The options were plentiful as they had fried catfish, fried chicken, jerk chicken, mac and cheese, cabbage, yams, oxtails, fried okra, just to name a few. Oh! And I can't forget the pecan pie and soft chocolate chip cookies. The food was great! My only complaint is we were not offered a drink menu, only water. They have a full bar so I'm not sure what that was about. Also the wait staff took a long time to bring us anything we asked for. For example, someone would come by and ask if we wanted a refill of water, we say yes, and then catch that same person having a conversation off to the side for several minutes. This happened more than once. Otherwise, I would still return.
This place makes me soooooo happy!!!! I am so glad that they opened back up because when I came one day and they were closed, I was so sad. If you are looking for a bomb ass Sunday brunch, Brownstone LA is it!!! Honey, let me tell you! This place is like a Soul food Caribbean hybrid! The food is so delicious and is made with so much love that in each bite you can taste it! When I went they had Roasted vegetables, fried chicken, meatballs, mixed vegetables, a mix of cabbage and kale or collards, shrimp and grits, beans and rice, omelettes, waffles and so much more! In addition to the bomb food, they have some really good drinks too. I had the bottomless mimosas for $15.99 and let me tell you, it was worth every drop! Brownstone is one of my go-to's and favorite places to go so if you are in Mid City, on Pico and/or looking for some good ole Sunday brunch, Brownstone is the place!!! I forgot to mention one of the new touches they added... live music! This makes the ambiance even more attractive because when you're outside you can't hear the music, but when you walk inside, the vibe you get is like you're walking into an old school R&B party lol. Overall, this place is great! Go there!
